Taikura Whare
Te Manukura is a learning space addition at Taikura Rudolf Steiner School in Hastings. The classroom is designed to reflect the philosophies of Rudolf Steiner, the distinctive Taikura campus vernacular, and wharenui design. By integrating indoor and outdoor learning environments, this project aims to create a harmonious and inspiring space for the teaching of Te reo Māori
This was a special projectto Sol, as a former student of the School.
"The design of the new space has been a very collaborative process with a lot of discussion about the current learning requirements, the surrounding landscape, the building orientation, how the building connects to the rest of the school (to the east), and the street to the North. Through iterations of the designs meeting and site walkovers, the concept provides ample interior and exterior spaces that can be adorned and reflect the building use over time." - Sol Atkinson, Architect
