Atkinson Harwood Architecture is a boutique architecture studio based in Ahuriri, Hawke's Bay. As a company, we are on a mission to normalise sustainable building practices and believe this level of construction should be available to everyone.
The company was founded by Sol Atkinson and Sam Harwood in July 2016, and has since built an extensive portfolio in a wide range of residential and commercial projects. We offer the full architectural design process to our clients from Concept Design through to Contract Administration and Observation.
Atkinson Harwood Architecture Ltd is an NZIA practice, which utilises NZIA standard forms of Agreement for Services and Construction contracts.
Architecture is defined as the Design and Construction of a building.
Our role in delivering quality buildings is to be involved and add value to both the Design and Construction phases of a project.

The Atkinson Harwood team is made up of a skilled and diverse range of backgrounds. Sol, our Registered Architect, is also a Homestar Assessor and we encourage every new client to consider using Homestar's holistic performance tool to guide the design to achieve a higher level of performance and to reduce the environmental impact of the project. Sol Atkinson is a Registered Architect (BArch Hons, NZRAB 4946) & Homestar Assessor. Sol graduated from Victoria University in 2007 and combines over 10 years experience in the Architectural Industry in both the Wellington and Hawke's Bay regions. A wide range of project experience includes Commercial, Residential, Education, Heritage and Sustainable Design.

Sam Harwood

Sam Harwood is an Architectural Designer (BDesHons). Graduating from Massey University in 2009, Sam has over a decade of experience in the architectural and interior design fields in the both the Wellington and Hawke's Bay regions.

Anna McHardy

Homestar Practitioner
Anna McHardy is an Architectural Technician, graduating from EIT with a Diploma of Architectural Technology in 2019. With a background in Marketing and Economics, Anna brings a wide skillset to the AHA team. Anna has a keen interest in sustainability and the built environment and is skilled across multiple disciplines from concept design to detailed documentation.
Thomas Black
Architectural Technician | Dip DAT
Thomas is an Architectural Technician graduating from EIT in 2019 with a Diploma in Architectural Technology. He enjoys the process of finding the best way to get a project from an idea to reality.
Outside of work, Thomas enjoys spending time with his friends and exploring the outdoors.
